About Wine Club Canada
Wine Club Canada is a national wine subscription and gifting brand operating in Canada’s regulated alcohol market. The company offers curated wine gift baskets and recurring wine subscriptions featuring boutique vineyards from across the country.
Despite an established online presence, Wine Club Canada’s organic visibility for high-intent subscription and gift searches was limited. With a modest SEO budget and the holiday season approaching, they partnered with Windsor Digital Marketing to implement a targeted growth strategy focused on revenue-generating pages.

Within four months, Wine Club Canada achieved the following results:
- Consistent 3x or greater year-over-year monthly traffic growth
- 170% expansion in total ranking keyword footprint
- 131% growth in Top 3 keyword rankings
- More than 1,000 organic clicks driven to subscription collection pages
This eCommerce SEO case study details the search strategy used to expand commercial keyword visibility, capture high-intent demand, and position the brand for sustained organic growth ahead of peak seasonal traffic.
Why They Chose Windsor Digital Marketing
When Wine Club Canada approached us, they were already working with an SEO agency, but organic growth had stalled. Their subscription and gift collection pages lacked ranking strength, and visibility did not align with high-intent, revenue-driving searches.
Previous efforts focused on building backlink authority, while foundational on-page optimization for key revenue pages was not prioritized.
With the holiday season approaching, timing was critical. SEO needed to be executed months in advance to mature before peak seasonal demand. At the same time, budget constraints required a focused plan built around high-impact initiatives.
They needed a partner who could combine practical SEO execution with a structured content strategy to directly connect search intent to subscription conversions.
That is what led them to Windsor Digital Marketing.
Our experience building high-intent keyword strategies within structured frameworks made us a strong fit to realign their organic visibility with revenue-driving searches.
We Started With Search and Keyword Research
Before making changes, we evaluated Wine Club Canada’s organic search positioning and identified areas limiting growth.
Right away, we uncovered several structural issues that were holding performance back:
- Subscription and gift collection pages were not ranking for high-intent commercial searches.
- Organic visibility was concentrated around lower-value queries rather than revenue-driving keywords.
- Seasonal terms were not being targeted early enough to mature before peak demand.
- Competitors were capturing alternative and comparison searches within Canada’s regulated alcohol space.
- Keyword targeting was heavily cannibalized, with multiple pages competing for branded terms instead of expanding non-branded visibility.
Rather than focusing on incremental authority through backlinks, the greater opportunity was to strengthen existing revenue pages and expand the site’s non-branded keyword footprint.
These findings shaped our strategy. We prioritized refining keyword targeting, reinforcing collection pages, and building structured content clusters to capture high intent and seasonal demand.
Our 4-Phase Full Funnel eCommerce SEO Strategy
Our strategy focused on building structured content funnels that established topical authority around high-intent commercial keywords targeted by Wine Club Canada’s collection pages.
We began by strengthening the SEO foundation and conversion potential of the collection pages. From there, we built supporting topical clusters that included secondary collection guides, comparison pages, and informational blog content designed to capture earlier-stage search demand.
This approach allowed us to expand the site’s keyword footprint while funnelling organic traffic toward high-conversion subscription and gift pages.
The entire strategy was rolled out in four phases.
Phase 1: Optimizing Revenue-Driving Collection Pages
We began by focusing on collection pages that targeted commercial keywords. When we started the campaign, all of Wine Club Canada’s collection pages targeted variations of wine gift baskets and wine subscriptions, including:
- Wine Gift Baskets
- Red Wine Gift Baskets
- White Wine Gift Baskets
- Wine Subscriptions
- Red Wine Subscriptions
- White Wine Subscriptions
These pages provided a strong starting point, but they were not properly optimized for search engines and generated only a small handful of organic clicks per month.

To address this, we restructured the collection page layout to improve on-page SEO and semantic keyword coverage. The goal was to better align each page with the transactional intent behind its target keywords while creating stronger metadata and internal linking structures that connected the wine subscription and wine gift ecosystems.
Once these collections were optimized, Wine Club Canada began ranking for several of their most important commercial keywords. However, this was only scratching the surface of the site’s total search potential.
To expand the audiences we could reach, we built out a series of additional collection pages targeting three strategic verticals.
Product-Specific Collection Pages
The first new collection pages we introduced focused on expanding Wine Club Canada’s product categories. These followed the same general theme the site already targeted but were designed to capture broader commercial searches beyond the original wine gift basket and subscription pages.
Examples of product-category landing pages included:
- Monthly Subscription Boxes in Canada
- Alcohol Subscription Boxes
- VQA Wines
- Wine Gift Subscriptions
- Wine Gifts
- Gift Boxes
- Corporate Gifts
- White Wine Gifts
- Last Minute Gifts

These product pages were built around two distinct themes.
The first focused on wine-specific product searches. These pages leveraged Wine Club Canada’s existing topical authority around wine subscriptions and wine gifts to attract highly targeted audiences with strong purchase intent. Because these searches were closely aligned with the brand’s core offerings, they produced some of the highest conversion rates within the campaign.
The second category focused on broader gifting and subscription themes, such as “Gifts for Moms.” These keywords carried significantly higher competition but also much larger search volumes.
While these audiences converted at lower rates than wine-specific searches, they introduced Wine Club Canada to a much wider pool of potential customers. This allowed the brand to capture early-stage demand that could later be retargeted through paid media campaigns while still generating a consistent stream of new leads.
Geofocused Collection Pages
The second type of collection pages we introduced was location-based wine club landing pages.
Until this point, Wine Club Canada primarily relied on nationwide searches tied to their core wine subscription and wine gift keywords. However, the site had little visibility within regional searches across Canada.
To address this, we created location-based landing pages targeting major regional markets with measurable search demand, identified using SE Ranking.

Examples of geo-focused collection pages included:
- Wine Club Vancouver
- Wine Club British Columbia
- Toronto Wine Club
- Gift Baskets Toronto
- Gift Baskets Montreal
- Gift Baskets Vancouver
Each page was optimized with region-specific keyword variations and semantic content tied to local wine markets. This allowed us to build topical relevance around each location and align the pages with localized commercial search intent.
As a result, these pages began ranking within regional search results and allowed Wine Club Canada to capture commercial demand that had previously been untapped.
Seasonal and Event-Focused Commercial Pages
The final set of collection pages we introduced targeted seasonal and event-driven searches. These pages were designed to capture commercial demand tied to major gifting holidays.
Examples of seasonal collection pages included:
- Christmas Gift Baskets
- Valentine’s Day Gifts
- Mother’s Day Gifts
- Father’s Day Gifts
- Gifts for Moms
- Gifts for Her
- Gifts for Him
- Last Minute Gifts

These pages targeted major gifting occasions where wine gifts and subscription boxes are especially popular purchases.
Because holiday searches spike at predictable times throughout the year, these pages were published and optimized in advance of each seasonal surge. This allowed them to mature in search results before peak demand arrived.
As a result, Wine Club Canada was able to capture significant seasonal traffic spikes and plan coordinated campaigns around key gifting holidays.
Phase 2: Capturing High-Intent Commercial Search
With collection pages driving transactional traffic, we shifted our focus to capturing middle- to bottom-of-funnel commercial searches. These were searches where users were actively comparing wine products or looking for gift options within the wine gifting vertical.
To target this demand, we published high-quality content designed to reach audiences evaluating different options before making a purchase.
This content targeted keywords that indicated users were actively researching wine gifts, comparing alternatives, or looking for curated recommendations.
To accomplish this, we built several guides and resources across two categories.
Competitor Comparisons
The first middle-of-funnel content we published was comparison guides. These positioned Wine Club Canada alongside some of the country’s most established wine gifting and subscription services, including:
- Wine Collective
- Marquis Wine Club
- Great Estates Wine Club

Each of these pages was optimized to rank for competitor comparison keywords. This allowed us to target audiences that were already evaluating competing wine clubs and subscription services.
By appearing in these searches, Wine Club Canada was able to intercept users deep in the decision-making process and introduce the brand as an alternative before those users completed a purchase with a competitor.
At the same time, we built comparison roundups such as “Best Wine Clubs in Canada.” These pages served as pillar content for the comparison cluster, helping strengthen topical authority and improve search engine rankings across the entire group of competitor comparison pages.
Seasonal and Gift Guides
The second set of commercial resources we created was seasonal gift guides. These were designed as complements to our seasonal collection pages, allowing us to reinforce topical authority through informational content.

Some of the gift guides we created included:
- Christmas Gift Box Ideas
- Best Christmas Wine Gifts
- Secret Santa Gifts for Wine Lovers
- Christmas Gifts for Dads
- Christmas Gifts for Moms
- Boozy Gift Ideas
- Gifts for Wine Enthusiasts
- Toronto Gift Guide
- Vancouver Gift Guide
Because the campaign began in November, we front-loaded the content calendar with Christmas-themed content. This allowed Wine Club Canada to capture peak seasonal demand and ultimately triple year-over-year search traffic during the holiday season.
We then continued the same strategy across other major gifting holidays throughout the year, alongside evergreen wine gift guides designed to capture demand for year-round gifting occasions.
Phase 3: Expanding Organic Authority Through Structured Content
With bottom and mid-funnel content live and driving traffic, we then shifted focus towards building organic topical authority with structured ToFu content.
This content served two purposes. It built Wine Club Canada’s reputation as the country’s premier wine authority, helping raise brand awareness that could later support conversions, while also increasing our visibility for relevant keywords.
This additional SERP coverage provided search engines with more context regarding the company’s offer, which helps boost rankings across the site, including for our BoFu and MoFu content.

Wine Education Guides
The first set of ToFu content we published was educational guides. These included informational pieces about the Canadian wine and Canadian wine gifting industries.
These included blog posts like:
- White wine gift guides
- White wine pairing guides
- Red wine gift guides
- Red wine pairing guides
- DIY Wine Gift Baskets
- Anonymous gifting guide
These evergreen topics support long-term visibility and authority in informational search results. They were not meant to drive immediate conversion, but to produce structured data for retargeting audiences that could later be used for PPC campaigns.
Regional Vineyard Guides
The second set of educational ToFu content we published was regional wine guides for different Canadian wine markets.
These included:
- A Guide to the Best Wine Regions in Canada
- Top BC Wineries and Vineyards
- The Best Ontario Wineries
- Best Wineries Near Toronto
Like our wine education guides, these pieces were designed to build topical relevance for regional wine markets and improve our rankings for local SEO across the country.
Phase 4: Internal Linking & Content Funnel Building
Once all of the content was published, we revisited each page to ensure the internal linking structure was fully implemented.
While much of the internal linking was planned from the beginning and incorporated during the publishing process, this stage allowed us to connect newly published content with earlier pages that did not exist when the initial collection pages went live.
This final step allowed us to build a complete content funnel that captured top-of-funnel audiences through informational searches and guided them toward middle-of-funnel comparison and gift guide content. From there, users were directed to bottom-of-funnel collection pages targeting transactional wine subscription and wine gift searches.
The result was a structured content journey that allowed Wine Club Canada to capture audiences at multiple stages of the buying cycle while steadily guiding them toward conversion-focused pages.
At the same time, this internal linking framework created topical content silos around key themes such as wine gifting, Canadian wine clubs, and wine subscriptions. These clusters helped reinforce topical authority with Google and improving crawlability and distributing ranking signals across the site.
Over time, this structure helped strengthen rankings not only for the supporting content but also for the core collection pages that generated the majority of subscription and gift revenue.
The Results: Traffic Growth and Boosted Rankings

Once the four-phase SEO strategy was fully implemented and rankings began to mature, Wine Club Canada experienced sustained organic growth leading into peak seasonal demand.
Key results included:
- Consistent 3x or greater year-over-year monthly organic traffic growth
- 170% increase in total ranking keyword footprint
- 131% growth in Top 3 keyword rankings
- 190% increase in impressions during the execution window
